Defender™ II
Rust Converter and Primer
Rust Converter and Primer for Indoor and Outdoor Metal Surfaces
For maintenance teams managing aging metal structures and equipment, Defender™ II eliminates the need for mechanical rust removal, functioning as a rust converter primer that chemically converts rust and prepares the surface for painting in a single step. This weatherproof polymeric layer stops metal corrosion and creates a durable, black surface that can be kept as-is or painted over. One application protects treated metal from recurring corrosion, reducing the frequency of touch-ups on outdoor structures. Instead of requiring excess grinding or wire-brushing, Defender™ II reduces surface prep to a single brush application and overnight dry time.
Where to Use Defender™ II
Defender™ II is a rust inhibiting primer and treatment that protects metals against gradual decay, enhancing equipment life by halting the buildup of rust.
Use On: rusted metals, aluminum or galvanized metals. Not for use on surfaces submerged in water.
Recommended For: Fencing, outdoor equipment, beams, and other similar surfaces at railyards, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and anywhere that rust buildup can create issues.
Effective Against: Active rust, oxidation, and ongoing moisture-driven corrosion.
Shake and stir well before using. Apply only when temperatures are between 60-100° F.
ON RUSTED METAL: Defender™ II is a metal primer, not a paint. Rust removal is not required; simply remove loose or peeling paint. Defender™ II will cover 600 sq.ft. per gallon. For best results, clean the surface with a degreaser such as State 999® and rinse with clean water.
Apply Defender™ II as a rust treatment primer undiluted with a brush. Allow to dry overnight. Apply a second coat or a topcoat of paint. Compatible with latex and acrylic paints. Where rust is heavy, two coats of Defender™ II may be required to ensure proper penetration and coverage.
For outdoor use and maximum indoor performance, a topcoat of paint is recommended. Allow 24 hours drying time before applying topcoat. Clean brushes with water. Avoid spreading onto adjacent areas. If splashing occurs, rinse with water.
ON NEW METALS: For new ferrous, aluminum, or galvanized surfaces, apply two coats of Defender™ II. Follow the directions above for proper application. A latex or acrylic paint finish coat may be applied over Defender™ II. Allow proper drying time between coats.
NOTE: Not for use on surfaces that are continuously submerged in water.
